The Jooma Properties Zulu Kings cricket team was launched with much fanfare in true African style at the Cascades Lifestyle Centre. Seen are the some players from the team, with management and staff from Jooma Properties, Liberty, Cascades Lifestyle Centre management team and the Jooma Zulu Brigade dance group.

The Jooma Properties Zulu Kings cricket team was launched in true African style to the beating drums of the Jooma Zulu Brigade at the Cascades Lifestyle Centre last Thursday. Players from the team autographed cricket bats and t-shirts for shoppers. Various prizes and flowers were also handed to the crowd. Prince Nhlanganiso son of Goodwill Zwelithini also attended the launch. He wished the team well in their upcoming matches.
“I will ensure that everywhere I go I will make sure the Zulu Kings team is known,” he said.
Well-known Pietermaritzburg businessman Shahin Jooma of Jooma Properties and Yaseen Badat of Liberty were recently presented with an opportunity to buy into a wonderful initiative launched by KZN Cricket called the Dolphins Premier League (DPL). Jooma Properties, which has become a household name in the property market in Pietermaritzburg, has seen many extremely happy clients in Durban and as far out as Ulundi in Northern KZN. They specialise in sales, rentals and auctioneering.
Yaseen Badat is a scientist turned financial advisor and has been with the Liberty group for the past 11 years. He is based in Pietermaritzburg but has a client base all over South Africa. He is also a part of the Achiever group at Liberty which ranks him as one of their top 35 advisors county-wide. He has many accolades in business and both him and Jooma are extremely passionate about cricket.
The Jooma Properties Zulu Kings cricket franchise which Jooma and Badat purchased from one of the eight teams competing in T20 cricket that will take place over three weekends to eventually crown the champion.
“The aim is to mirror the IPL and to create awareness around cricket and cricket development in our province. Each team comprises of Dolphin players, some league players from around KZN and some high school players. Local young players will have an opportunity to play alongside the very experienced Dolphin players. The aim is to promote cricket at grass route level. And who knows by participating we might create another Kagiso Rabada or Lungi Ngidi,”said Jooma.
As part of fulfilling their social obligations and to give something back to the community, they have invited all the schools in Pietermaritzburg to participate in this wonderful initiative.
Participating schools will have the opportunity to host the Jooma property Zulu Kings team at their school for autographs , pictures and play mini cricket ( for junior schools ). Senior schools will get the opportunity to play a T20 match against Jooma properties Zulu King’s team.
Jooma properties Zulu King’s team will be competing with other seven teams in the league and matches will start from August 25 to September 8.
Matches will be played at the Oval Pietermaritzburg and Kingsmead in Durban. All schools are invited to the Oval matches to watch and support the Jooma Properties Zulu Kings. Another aspect of this initiative was to help promote local business through sponsorship opportunities created.
