Mumbai’s Pat Cummins unlikely to show up at IPL | Cricket Bats | Australia

Pat Cummins is unlikely to play for Mumbai Indians this IPL season, ESPNcricinfo has learned, because Cricket Australia want to manage his workload given the fast bowler’s history of back problems. Cummins has not arrived in India even though the tournament got underway on Saturday with Mumbai losing the opening game to Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede stadium.

Cummins was bought by Mumbai for INR 5.4 crores (USD 831,475 approx) at the IPL player auction in January. If he pulls out of the IPL, he will be the second Australian fast bowler to do so after Kolkata Knight Riders’ Mitchell Starc, who withdrew with of a leg injury.

Cummins is just coming off a four-Test series in South Africa, where he was Australia’s highest wicket-taker with 22 at 21.45 apiece. Since making his return to Test cricket in March 2017, Cummins has bowled 594.5 overs. Only Nathan Lyon (690 overs) and the currently injured Kagiso Rabada (644.4) have bowled more.
